N 52.112171097332 / E 5.6803755234075

During Operation Market Garden, the bombing of Ede to stop the German occupation forces, Lieutenant Robert N. Greene was attacking German anti-aircraft guns. This was because his unit was supporting the Airborne landings at Arnhem (Operation Market Garden).

During attacks on the German artillery, his fighter jet caught fire. His Republic P-47D Thunderbolt of the 353rd Fighter Group of the US Air Force crashed in the meadow near Wekerom. A memorial plaque for him has now been erected opposite this spot. The young man was only 20 years old.
