If you want to see paintings by Domburg's artists, it is definitely worth visiting the Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum. This museum is a copy of Toorop's ‘kotje’. The original exhibition building located in the dunes of Domburg was lost in a storm in 1921.
The Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum was opened in 1994 and is a replica of the lost pavilion. Since then, the visual arts museum has expanded considerably. Besides changing exhibitions, the core collection still consists of works that were also exhibited between 1911 and 1921.
Marie Tak van Poortvliet (1871-1936), after whom the museum is named, was an art collector, anthroposophist and agricultural pioneer. She was also the life partner of Jacoba van Heemskerck.
