Vincent had a turbulent mind. Yet he found peace in nature. He once wrote to his brother Theo: ‘When we were driving back from Zundert in the evening, we walked for a while across the heath. Dad and I walked for a while, the sun set red behind the mast wood and the evening sky was reflected in the marshes, the heath and the yellow and white & grey sand were so full of tone and mood.’
