The Loonse en Drunense dunes are a small version of the Sahara with large temperature differences. Only the toughest plants and animals survive in this shifting sand area. The shifting sands are alive, which means that nature can take its course here and make a new dune out of, for example, a tree root. Sometimes you can see the crown of a tree just protruding above the sand.
