Lock III Three Toll Gate Lock - Oosterwolde
Lock III in Oosterwolde forms the watershed between the Tjonger and the Opsterlandse Compagnonsvaart. Both canals were dug for the purpose of drainage and peat extraction.
At this lock there is still a lock keeper's house and a pump to pump back water from the area at low water levels for the benefit of recreational boating.
Next to the lock is a culvert, or siphon, which ensures that no foreign water runs into the Tjonger.
