In the years 1779-1780, two polder mills were built to dry a depleted pond and then to keep the polder at the desired level.
Nowadays, the mill drains, with the Lijker Mill II, the Veender- and Lijkerpolder. It functions as an auxiliary pumping station and is used for extreme flooding. The Lijkerpolder has approximately 540 hectares. The head is approx. 4.20 m.
Special: Together with Lijker Mill II, these mills are the only twelve-sided mills in the Netherlands.
