This striking brick structure, built in 1946 by contractor Herwig, replaced an earlier cast-iron light stand from 1868. The lighthouse has a height of 10.6 metres and a characteristic yellow lantern with a red cap. It served as a beacon for ships on the Hollandsch Diep from 1947 until the light was extinguished in 1989.
The lighthouse can be visited inside on special event days, such as the annual Open Monument Days in September. Its immediate surroundings and views of the city centre make a visit to this monumental structure well worthwhile.
