Perhaps one of the best known parks in the Netherlands, thanks to a song by singer Frank Boeijen from 1985: the Kronenburgerpark. The park was designed and laid out in 1882. It has since been added to the list of national monuments.
On the side along Parkweg are the remains of the medieval fortress walls with the Kruittoren. Next to the Kruittoren, the old watchtowers the St. Jacobstoren and De Roomse Voet stand in the park.
The name Kronenburgerpark is probably derived from the former name for the Kruittoren. It was sometimes called Kronenburger tower because the fortress (also called 'fortified place') had a crown.
