The Japanese-American artist Shinkichi Tajiri (1923-2009), after creating misunderstood works of art, spent years creating different types of buttons in sculptural form. He himself said about this: 'I want people to be able to give meaning to my works of art. With my 'knots', I want to make a clear statement, to ensure immediate communication between the work and the viewer".
Tajiri lived a large part of his life, until his death, in a small castle in Baarlo. In that period, he filled the streetscape with various knots of cast iron. That is why Baarlo is also called the Knot Village. This knot on the Vergelt is like a gateway to the village and is one of a total of seven knots in and around Baarlo.
