Kiekkaaste: the only bird hide outside a dyke - Oldambt
Have a unique experience in the only bird hide outside a dyke in the Netherlands! Even getting there is special: a boardwalk takes you over the water and through tall reeds. Swallows nest in the rafters of the hut, darting back and forth in front of you on their way to their nests. From the hut you have a panoramic view of the Dollard mud flats, which dry up at low tide and are submerged at high tide. Hundreds of dunlins forage here for shellfish, and even seals sometimes make an appearance.
Note: a visit to this bird watching hut is not recommended in strong winds.
