Keppel Castle was built in the 14th century and through inheritance has always remained in direct family ownership. It was the centre of many battles, especially during the Eighty Years' War.
In 1510, the original house was unfortunately lost in a war between Charles of Gelre and Philip of Burgundy, but in 1609 a start was made on rebuilding it. This lasted until 1620. Then, between 1740 and 1750, the castle was further expanded at the rear by master builder Gerrit Ravenschot. In 1780, the gatehouse was thoroughly changed. Finally, the rear, the IJssel wing and the hall wing were connected in 1850. Thus, the construction of this impressive castle was finally completed.
