The canalisation of the Vecht meant that the river's decline became too great. This would drain the river. Therefore, weirs were built. A few years ago, locks were built so that pleasure boating is again possible from Zwolle to Gramsbergen and even to the German border town of Laar. In summer, they are eagerly used.
After the weir, you enter the hamlet of Junne, old farmhouses strewn across the landscape. The story of Junne as an estate begins around 1718, when Johan Werner van Pallandt bought erve ‘De Brake’. Soon after, more followed. Almost all (tenant) farms in Junne are named. ‘Weidelust’, ‘Het Meugje’, ‘De Diesel’, Het Rottenklooster' and “De Bakkerij”, to name but a few.
