This centuries-old Veluwe tavern, has a rich history dating back to the early 1600s.
The old Veluwe farmhouse the Zwarte Boer was located at the intersection of the old Hessen roads Harderwijk - Deventer and Zwolle - Amersfoort. Its central location made it an important stopping-off point for stagecoaches and diligences. At the Zwarte Boer, intermediate stops could be made and parcels were exchanged.
Because in the past a farmer was often also the innkeeper, the richer coachmen could spend the night in the box bed in 'the Gelagkamer'. It was here that the foundations were laid for the building's catering function.
Around 1830, the Zuiderzeestraatweg between Zwolle and Amersfoort was constructed. As a result, the route along the Zwarte Boer disappeared. However, the farm always retained its function as an inn. In 1859, the beautiful nature area around the Black Farmer was further opened up and the flow of tourists started. The farmhouse became an inn for cyclists, hikers and horse riders.
In the early 1900s, the farm got an upper floor. And after a chimney fire in 1951, the property was completely rebuilt.
The current managers completely renovated the hotel. At the time, it was the smallest 4-star hotel in the Netherlands.
Today, the building serves as a restaurant and is open 6 days a week for coffee, lunch and dinner.
The hotel rooms are no longer in use.
