Wittenburg Castle was built in 1901 in a typical Dutch neo-renaissance style. The architect Johannes van Nieukerken designed the country house by order of Esquire Helenus Marinus Speelman. He was a direct descendant of Cornelis Speelman, a governor general who served in the former Dutch East India in the 17th century. Today, Wittenburg Castle is a stylish business hotel and congress centre. The country estate offers free access to cyclists and walkers. The cellar houses restaurant “Sophie”, where delicious culinary lunches and dinners are served in a French style with an Asian twist.
