The original Horse Mill in Bourtange is said to be about 400 years old now, but the mill that stands there today is a reconstruction made in 1988. It is a so-called "rosmolen", a type of mill that is driven by a horse that runs in circles to turn the millstones.
Today, the Horse Mill is a popular tourist attraction and one of the few horse-drawn mills still in operation. Visitors can tour the mill and watch the miller at work as he grinds grain and produces flour.
