In 1890, the wealthy Louis van Loon had a new country house built here, La Forêt. During the war, the house was captured by the Germans. An English bombardment caused a lot of damage. After the war, part of the estate was sold to the municipality of Doorn for the construction of a cemetery.
In 1963, the estate came into the hands of Bartiméus, an institute for the blind and visually impaired. The house was demolished. Today, Bartiméus residents work in the garden, which is open to visitors. The old containers for growing vegetables and flowers are still in full use. A large number of rose varieties can be admired in the rose garden.
