Discover prehistoric burial monuments from the New Stone Age and Bronze Age between Epe and Niersen, where the longest row of burial mounds in Europe lies. One of these mounds is the Deer Mound, a high mound very recognisable in the middle of a crossroads in the forest.
Prince Hendrik used to build his hunting lodge on it. The burial mound once cut through a dirt road, the border between Emst and Gortel. The burial mound was later restored to its old form.
Around this spot you will find many more burial mounds. With a short walk, you will see several more looming in the landscape. Near almost every burial mound, a so-called 'heritage poller' has been inserted into the ground. By pulling up the handle, the contents become visible and you will learn more about the burial mound.
