Heritage Park De Hoop is idyllically located at the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer lake. This park not only offers relaxation for lovers of holiday recreation, catering and water sports, it also houses a special piece of history: the monumental timber shed.
This shed originally adorned Zuideinde in Westzaan, but since 2009, this provincial monument can be found in the Erfgoedpark. The woodshed is freely accessible and offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. Among other things, it tells the story of Cornelis Corneliszoon van Uitgeest, better known as Krelis Lootjes, and his pioneering invention of the wood sawmill. His contribution to the industrial development of the Netherlands is invaluable.
Besides the story of Krelis Lootjes, the woodshed also reveals the origins and habitation history of the OER-IJ. A special experience is also the 'virtual periscope'. This takes you back in time, where you can see the North Holland landscape as Cornelis saw it more than 450 years ago. In short, a visit to the Heritage Park brings history to life in a unique way!
