Hemelrijkse Waard - Oijen
The river landscape around the Meuse changes almost daily under the influence of the river's dynamics.
The avenue-like image evoked by the old poplars planted along the river served as an aid for boaters, in the days when they were not yet equipped with GPS, to follow the fairway. But thanks to those trees, a beautiful underwater world has also been created, as plants and crustaceans have become attached to the trees and fish have found a safe haven there.
Stroll through the floodplains looking for animal tracks in the clay soil, will you recognise the tracks of the beaver, a roe deer or a hare? Don't forget to enjoy the wide views and the sound of twittering birds....
