On the spot where Piet Hein set foot in Hellevoetsluis on 10 January 1629 stands, now for more than 200 years, the Hellevoetsluis Lighthouse. The national monument served to replace the lantern that was no longer sufficient for the home port of Piet Hein, Michiel de Ruyter and Maarten Tromp.
Built in 1822, the lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse in our country. From April to September, you can climb the lighthouse on the last Sunday of the month and enjoy the breathtaking view over the Haringvliet, the fortress and the harbour with its impressive maritime history. The rest of the year, admire this lighthouse from outside.
