As the navigation channels and harbour mouth were optimised, the light of the Harlingen lighthouse was no longer needed in 1998. But now the monumental building has a different purpose: it is probably the tallest Bed & Breakfast in the Netherlands. Only when you book an overnight stay there is the lighthouse climbable, passers-by can only admire the tower from the outside.
