The current Gunterstein was built in 1681 by Magdalena Poulle and dates back to a knight’s manor (ridderhofstad) from the beginning of the 16th century. The design for the current estate was probably drawn up by Adriaan Dortsman and is in an austere, almost unornamented classical style. The proportions are based on the golden ratio or divine proportion: the ratio of the house, sightlines and garden forms a perfect whole. The garden is open to the public.
