This mill, a polder mill, was originally built to drain the surrounding land and played a crucial role in managing the Frisian water landscape. Over the years, the Grevensmolen has always remained grinding capable and contributes to the preservation of traditional Dutch mill culture.
The lacy mill, type ground-sailer, with living quarters, was built in 1860 and rigorously refurbished in 2006. This restoration involved restoring and reusing as much historical material as possible. The mill was given a completely new thatched roof and the old 1860 reed slats were used. The mill is open to the public by appointment.
