The Grevenbroek Museum in Hamont-Achel shows the history of the region, from prehistory to after the Second World War. You will find old objects, drawings, models, photos and films that bring the past to life. There is now an exhibition about the ‘50s and ’60s, with topics such as reconstruction, growing prosperity and the Cold War, supplemented with objects and stories from the region.
The museum is located in the Simonshuis, a villa built in 1883. The Simons family first lived there. Later it was converted into a weaving mill. During the Second World War, the British army used it as their headquarters. Since 1984, the museum has been housed in the building together with the tourist information office. It is now an important historical site in the region.
