The Gravenallee in Almelo is a beautiful, historic driveway leading to Huize Almelo, a castle dating back to the thirteenth century. Surrounded by monumental farms and extensive farmland, this green avenue uniquely combines nature and history and is surprisingly close to the city centre. At 3.5 kilometres long, the Gravenallee offers a peaceful, car-free environment in which to experience Almelo's rich history.
Around the Gravenallee is a network of 16 kilometres of walking and cycling paths that take you through varied landscapes of woods, hedges and canals. In the Gravenbos is an idyllic forest pond where you can enjoy nature, bird sounds and perhaps an encounter with deer or pheasants. Although Huize Almelo is privately owned by the Van Rechteren Limpurg family and not accessible, the view of the castle from the avenue is more than worth it. This special place, where peace and history come together, is an ideal setting for a relaxing cycle route.
