Back in 1890, Frans Blaauw is the owner of Gooilust Estate and he is very fond of eccentric things. He built an entire zoo at the estate featuring gnus, bison’s, trumpeter swans and antelopes. The last German emperor Wilhelm II, who stayed at Huis Doorn, often visited him in the 1920 and 1930s. The house is not open to the public. The parks can be visited and the pleasure gardens form the highlight of the estate (open at specific times only).
