In Miranda van der Waal's studio an old craft is put into practice in a contemporary way. Miranda blows for the lamp: an old Venetian technique to model decorative objects or ornaments for the flame. She blows, pulls and twists the glass until organic, wafer-thin forms emerge. The collection ranges from glasses, vases and lamps to gigantic chandeliers. Miranda was brought up on the trade: she learned the essential basic techniques from her mother, glass-blower Woutje Schaaf. Afterwards she followed a four-year training with master glassblower Van Bruggen in Rotterdam. Miranda then developed her own unique style and way of working with glass.
