Giant bulb | Langeveld - Noordwijk

This giant tulip bulb was painted by artist Nicoline Heemskerk, born and raised in the Bulb Region. Her studio can be found in her hometown of Warmond. Her work can be recognised by its colourful and figurative style.

This Giant Bulb was commissioned by local entrepreneurs who want to show the history, but also the vitality of the agricultural sector in Het Langeveld. For this tulip bulb, as part of the art project GIANT TULIP BULBS, Heemskerk paints various elements that symbolise the regional sector.

You can see blister heads and the glider field depicted. The lady leaping over the blister head symbolises vitality. But you also see exotic plants, oystercatchers, a black-tailed godwit and a drone. The contrast of the former farming craft and modernisation within the agricultural sector is shown with the old-fashioned sowing machine opposite a modern tractor.
