With this giant tulip bulb, you will be taken on a time journey about the history of Jonkman Marina. It starts at the black-and-white roll of film where you see Grandpa Jonkman sailing on his boat 'De Johanna'. He hired himself out as a skipper for canal trips for the elite.
Then you see how Opa Jonkman discovers a beautiful house in Sassenheim during a cycle route. Here, he creates a beautiful, green place for water sports enthusiasts, which new generations continue to honour to this day. You can see those generations reflected on the globe.
You see a huge number of elements from then and now. You see sailing club 'De Boet' and how the marina continued to grow. You see an old map of the 'Cage' and the bream, a common fish. But also familiar spots on the Kaag, such as the Warmond teahouse and the Kaagsociëteit, and its current owners. The fact that Grandpa Jonkman's boat is called 'De Johanna' is no coincidence, by the way; the current owner's name is Johanna Jonkman, the granddaughter of.
The tulip bulb, part of art project GIANT TULIP BULBS, was painted by Joyce van Caspel, born in Amstelveen in 1970, raised in Noordwijk. She prefers to paint directly what touches and inspires her. That is why she always takes a sketchbook with her, so she doesn't miss a thing.
