Giant bulb | Butterflies - Hillegom
This giant tulip bulb was painted by artist Anita van Diemen from Lisse, where her art studio is also located. She is always looking for layering and alienation, which gives her work a surprising effect.
As a child, Van Diemen enjoyed going with her mother during the summer holidays to peel bulbs for an extra pocket money. After peeling, they would always cycle past a row of butterfly bushes, where her mother would stop to watch the butterflies together. That childhood memory is the inspiration for the painting on this tulip bulb, part of the art project GIANT TULIP BULBS.
