Gat van Cortenoever is located in the green countryside near Brummen. The lake was created by sand extraction for the construction of the N348 between Arnhem and Zutphen. It is a peaceful place to enjoy nature and recreate in the water, with a surface area of about 3.9 hectares and a depth that gradually decreases to 8 metres. The banks are lined with grass and reeds and there is a small beach where you can relax and swim.
The Gat van Cortenoever is also a favourite spot for anglers. The lake is known for its rich fish population, particularly carp ranging from 15 to 25 pounds. In addition to carp, other species of fish can also be found, such as pike and perch. Fishing is permitted throughout the year, provided you are a member of HSV Eerbeek or are in possession of a weekly permit in combination with a national fishing pass.
