In the heart of Neer lies the historic Friedesse Molen, a pearl of craft and nature, dating back to 1343. Located on the Neerbeek, this water mill has a rich history of more than 700 years as a corn and oil mill. Despite decay in 1962 due to the canalisation of the stream, the community lovingly restored the mill and its surroundings in 2002. Now, as a protected monument, the mill once again stands in all its glory, complete with a rebuilt weir and is a lively meeting place. With beautiful cycle routes running alongside it, the Friedesse Mill offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore local history and nature, while enjoying the peace and beauty of the waterfront.
This monumental water mill is currently owned by Mr P.B. Kächel, who gave the mill on long lease to the De Friedesse Molen Foundation in December 1999. On 19 July 2002, the mill was officially reopened by the Queen's Commissioner of Limburg, Mr B.J.M. Baron Van Voorst tot Voorst.
Since then, the Friedesse Molen has been open to the public every Saturday from 11.00-17.00 and on Sundays from 13.00-17.00, for the time being only from May to October.
