Schoonhoven is really a place to stop for a while. With its old moat, beautiful towers, monumental buildings and medieval streets.

The first defences were built here as early as the 14th century: one and a half kilometres of town walls with five gates, 19 towers and a moat. Not everything has been preserved, but a suk city wall and the contours of a defensive tower on the moat remind us of the time when Schoonhoven was a real garrison town.
