Strategically located at the water's edge and hidden under a layer of earth, this is the easternmost fortress of the New Dutch Waterline. From the roof you have a spectacular view of the Rhine, Waal and the Pannerdensch Kanaal. This made it an important point during wars.
During the First World War some 300 soldiers were stationed in the fort. During the Cold War, the skies were monitored from the roof against Russian planes. Afterwards, the fortress fell into disrepair and squatters occupied the building. Now the fortress has been fully restored and you can battle the four elements here: just like the fortress in the past, defy water, earth, air and fire. Go on an expedition, listen to the stories of the fortress and meet the soldiers of the fortress in the soldiers' museum. There are many more activities to experience in the fortress. A fun attraction for young and old!
