Fort Noorddijk is valued for its cultural history and for nature. It is part of the Stelling van Maas-and Haringvlietmonden, which consisted of the fortified towns of Brielle and Hellevoetsluis with two forts in between. In an attack from the seaside, the part west of the fort could be flooded and the enemy could be shot at from the fort. Now it is a beautiful monument in the landscape where many duck species spend the winter on the fort moat.
