The Fort near Spijkerboor is the largest and most modern fortress in the Defence Line of Amsterdam. This defence line around the capital was built between 1880 and 1920. The cannons seem to have been used yesterday and also in the fortress time has stood still. You can visit the fortress from the inside during a guided tour or an open day.
You are also welcome during Fortress Month and on Open Monument Days in September. You can walk past the sleeping quarters of the troops, the ammunition rooms, the machine gun positions, the turret artillery and the army kitchen with its kettles measuring one and a half metres.
