Fort De Bilt has had many faces since it began with earthen ramparts in 1815. Located on the eastern side of Utrecht, it is divided in two by the road from Utrecht to De Bilt and Zeist. The northern part serves as a memorial centre of the events during World War II, called 'Remembrance Centre for the Future'. An impressive memorial with nameplates recalls the 140 men who were shot dead by the Nazis.
The southern part is used by the Royal Military Police and is not open to the public.
