On 16 January 2017, the Nederlands Leder en Schoenen Museum on Elzenweg closed its doors to the public. Although the museum is no longer accessible, a mural still adorns the premises. This museum was known for its extensive collection of footwear and demonstrations of both old and modern production processes in the shoe factory and tannery.
In 2022, Het Schoenenkwartier opened its doors as Waalwijk's new leather and shoe museum. Het Schoenenkwartier takes up the tradition of the old museum and offers a fresh look at the rich history and craftsmanship of shoemaking.
