The 50 kV station at Radio Kootwijk, designed by Hendrik Fels between 1923 and 1931, was crucial for the power supply of the powerful shortwave transmitters. The basement housed the transformer room with concrete finishes and ordered electrical installations. On the ground floor, there was a hall with black and white tiled floor, in addition to technical rooms such as a transformer room with masonry and double installations against faults. There was also an overhaul room for maintenance of heavy equipment.
On the first floor were control rooms with control panels and switches for regulating electricity. These rooms had black and white tiled floors and clean brickwork, functionally designed for clarity and efficiency.
This station allowed Radio Kootwijk to operate as an important communications hub by providing reliable power for international shortwave communications.
