Visit flour mill de Herder, receive a historical tour and turn the blades of the mill. Discover how flour is made here from grain. You can also buy this in the accompanying mill shop. During the season you can enjoy a snack and a drink in the adjacent gatehouse. This mill, at the Westerpoort in Medemblik, has been mentioned on the maps since 1555. In 1947, the mill was torn down after nearly 400 years of service. 1985 was the year in which the back of the 300-year-old Zaanse oil mill was purchased by the De Medemblikker Meelmolen foundation, which was established that same year.
This oil mill was called the Shepherd and was rebuilt from that time by volunteers and mill makers. On May 9, 1990, Prince Claus put the mill into operation.
