During the high water, the villages of Schouwen-Duiveland are only recognisable by groups of houses that only partially rise above the water with a church tower here and there. Noordwelle is only a small village and when the water comes, many have to flee. Noordwelle lies on a mound, which is why, among other things, the church remained dry.
The photos show how the high water swept away parts of the houses. Of the residential houses, almost only the skeleton remains.
