Already in the early morning of 1 February, the water rose above the floodboards and flowed into the streets of Brouwershaven. Due to the pressure of the high water, old doors soon collapsed and the water also entered the houses. In St Nicolas Church, the water rose as high as 3.5 metres. Today, this church is still struggling with the consequences of this disaster. However, the arrival of the Delta Works made Brouwershaven more accessible and allowed the village to grow into a popular tourist destination.
The photo shows part of Brouwershaven rising above the water, around this you can see the streets disappearing into the water.
