Farm complex Geelmolen, once part of nearby Cannenburch Castle, consists of a historic farmhouse, water mill and water pump. It was built in 1911 to the design of architect J.J. Hellendoorn, commissioned by banker Mr A.R.P. Mees. A rare example of early 20th-century architecture, combining country house style with the architectural influences of K.P.C. de Bazel.
The farmhouse is not only of great architectural value, also urban planning and cultural-historical Geelmolen is an important monument. The beautiful cohesive whole of the complex exudes the allure of a model farm. As a result, it fulfils a picture-defining role for Vaassen.
The name 'Geelmolen' (yellow mill) has its origins in the 17th century, when yellow copper was abundant in this region. In all those years, the mill has served as a powder mill, paper mill and as a laundry. Today, it functions as a livestock farm, preserving its historical character.
