De Zomerschuur is truly a gem in down-to-earth Friesland. Annie van Dam runs a veal farm where animal welfare comes first. It runs in the family: her father was once awarded for the way he cared for and fed his animals. Annie proudly continues that tradition. She believes it’s important for people to know where their food comes from and consciously chooses local – for short supply chains and regional products with a story.
Visitors are welcome on the farmyard, which over the years has grown into a small-scale, versatile farm with a shop, a self-service machine, a vegetable garden, an orchard and a pick-your-own garden.
In the farm shop you’ll of course find veal from their own animals, but also cheese, dairy and meat from fellow farmers nearby. There are homemade chutneys and jams, gift packages and other products that change with the seasons. If the shop is closed, the self-service farm machine offers a solution.
In summer, you can pick your own fruit and flowers in the garden. And if you need a little break, you can pour yourself a cup of herbal tea in the gypsy wagon in the garden.
