The Schouwse Hoeve has a rich history. At the end of the 16th century, the farm was inhabited by Adriaan Jan Domusse and his daughters Willemijne and Janneken. After one of the daughters married a Dalebout, this name came to the farm. Hence the street name on which the farm restaurant is located.
Eight Dalebout families followed. Whether all of them lived in the farmhouse cannot be said with certainty. From 1783, we know for sure: the field book from this year mentions a Machiel Leenderste Daalboudt, married to Pieternella van Zuyen, owners of De Schouwse Hoeve.
At the time, five hectares of land belonged to the farm. In the centuries that followed, much more land was added. In 1964, the M.W. Dalebout-Van Gastel couple sold a large part of their capital property to the Renesse Foundation, which turned it into a recreational area. It is now surrounded by numerous holiday homes.
The farmhouse was built in authentic Zeeland style, or black, penciled boards and a white outline. You now enjoy the á la carte restaurant there from Wednesday to Sunday, where dishes are prepared from as many local, artisanal ingredients as possible.
