There are still several sugar processing factories in Roosendaal. In 1928, Mr Oudewater from Rotterdam bought this empty complex from a match manufacturer. He started producing sweets using machines. The factory was successful for the first few years and was expanded several times.
From 1939, trains rode directly into the building via a branch line of the railway between Roosendaal and Breda. Today, Red Band Winegums as well as Venco liquorice are produced here. Annual production amounts to around 19,000 tonnes of sweets.
The middle section of the building was built in 1935 and is a national monument.
