Erve Geerlink, like Erve Ribbert, is a halle house-type farm. The farmstead as you see it today is from 1914. But the erve is actually much older. Historical documents first mention the farm in 1298, when it was owned by the Lord of Almelo. In 1475, the name of the erve appeared in the Schattingsregister.
This Schattingsregister is the most complete medieval document that exists about Twente farmsteads. The original register is in the Staatsarchiv in Munster and was drawn up by Roelof van Beverforde. He belonged to the episcopal councils and was a member of the highest court. He was also sheriff and steward of Vollenhove and later of Twente.
His ancestral home was in Ootmarsum. As steward of Twente, he levied an estimate (schatting), an extraordinary tax levied for special circumstances for which extra money was needed.
