It is perhaps Rotterdam's most famous sculpture, the Erasmus Bridge, with the wonderful nickname The Swan. The bridge is 284 metres long, has a buckled asymmetrical pylon and connects the city centre with the Kop van Zuid district.
Designed by Ben van Berkel, the Erasmus Bridge is named after Rotterdam-born philosopher, writer, humanist Desiderius Erasmus. The bridge has been the setting for numerous events such as the Red Bull Air Race, the World Port Days, in 2010 the prologue of the Tour de France and in 2012 The Passion played out there.
