In the sixteenth century, the wealthy childless Lady Elisabeth from Culemborg left behind an enormous amount of money. This orphanage, among other things, was built with this money. Children who had lost their parents could go to the orphanage in the centre of Culemborg. But life in the house was not always easy. There was a strict daily rhythm, strict rules and punishments were handed out.
Nowadays, the orphanage has become a museum and you can (literally) step into the shoes of an orphan in those days.
