Eise Eisinga Planetarium - Franeker
Eise Eisinga was born on February 21st, 1744 in Dronrijp. Like so many children at the time, he had to come home to work at his father's wool combing business. Like his father, he was interested in things like astronomy and mathematics. From a young age, he walked every week to Franeker, where he studied Euclid's mathematics books. His great knowledge of mathematics and astronomy came in handy when unrest broke out over Eelco Alta's prediction of the end times. Eise had all the knowledge to build a model of the solar system in his living room. With this, he wanted to show that there was no reason to panic. There was only seven years between his very first idea and the eventual realization.
